This is what you will do:
Before the workshop starts, send your design to Mattimat. The rest of preparation is up to me! Your frame of 60 x 70 cm, your canvas with your drawing on it and all the colors of wool you would like to use will all be taken care of.
During the workshop you will first receive an explanation of how the tufting machine works. But of course not for too long, because you can then start working on your rug! Is your rug ready? Then you can use it as a wall hanging, rug or tablecloth. You can also frame it nicely as a painting. There is so much possible!
You do not need any experience for the workshop. The group consists of a maximum of 8 people, because this gives everyone plenty of opportunity to ask questions, learn and create something beautiful.
What does a tufting workshop look like?
The workshop lasts from 12:30 PM to 5:00 PM and includes snacks, drinks and of course all the materials. Are you coming with your own group? Then we can also organize a private workshop for just your group. The time, duration and date can of course also be discussed flexibly with each other.
- We start with a drink and an introduction: how does the machine work? what does a tufted rug look like? What techniques can be used?
- We practice on a practice rug, so that you first build up some feeling with the tufting gun.
- Get to work with your own rug and the tufting gun!
- Will you be ready on time? Then you can finish your rug with the trimmer and the duck bill scissors.
- Then we conclude the workshop.
When you are done, the rug needs to be glued, because it needs to be stretched on the cloth for the best en most beautiful result. I do this for you. You will receive a message from me when your canvas is ready. I will then send it to you or you can pick it up.
Where is the tufting workshop?
The tufting workshops take place at an external location in Utrecht, which will be shared with you after registration. Easy accessibility and free parking are always taken into account at the locations.
What is tufting?
Tufting is a technique in which you use a machine (a kind of hand-held sewing machine) to shoot 2 strands of wool through a cloth at the same time. Your canvas is stretched on a frame and you always work from the back. Shoot your yarn through the tufting cloth to the front via the tufting gun. Your creation can be seen there.
The tufting guns can be used in 2 positions: cut pile and loop pile. During the workshop we work with the cut pile stand. This gives a kind of pile effect. The effect of loop pile resembles small loops.
The end result is a rug that you can use however you want. Hang it on the wall as a wall hanging, place it on the table as a nice decorative rug or make a rug for the bathroom. There is so much possible with this fun hobby!
